1. How many kinds of campfire:
• Hand down campfire (Lửa Trại Truyền Trao). This
campfire takes place after each of training camp Trại Đội
Chúng Trưởng Anom Niliên v.v...) The leaders and camp
trainers will hand down their experiences, advises, and
responsibilities to the trainees (Troop, group, and team
leaders)
• Fun campfire (Lửa Trại Vui). This campfire usually
takes place on the first night of a long training camp.
• Performance campfire (Lửa Trại Tŕnh Diễn ). This
campfire usually takes place at local area to introduce or
to promote an educational program in BYA (Buddhist Youth
Association).
• Competition Campfire (Lửa Trại Tranh đua). This
campfire usually takes place before the performance
campfire to choose the best performances and activities
for the Performance campfire.
• Mileage campfire (Lửa Trại Dặm Đường hay Chặng
Đường). This campfire takes place after a day travel or
duing long mission for reviewing schedule, exchanging
experiences, and scheduling future activities.
2. How many performances for the camp fire:
a. Comedy, theatrical history.
b. Dance, musical dance.
c. Singing, duet. Etc.
d. Perform martial arts
e. Story telling.
f. Making fun activities
g. Games
h. Drawing
• In general, any fun activities and art
performances are accepted. But remember that campfire is
the main subject not art performances.
• Campfire performance is the teamwork, involves
all the camp trainees, each with different skills and talents.
To take effect, meaning all camp trainees have to act and
play together for fun. No one is audience.
• Normally, campfire performance programs are
announced in 30 Min or an hour before the opening in order
to carry out camp trainees’ art talents at short notice.
Remember, campfire performances usually practice at the
campsite not in advance.
• Theatrical arts are usually based on Buddha
history, Buddhist religion, BYA’s loving care, history, and
leader’s responsibility.
3. Lighting a fire:
• Lighting directly: a special guest, or fire keeper
(Quản Lửa) will light the fire and sing ‘Call for a fire’ (G†i
Lºa) song.
• Lighting indirectly: everybody gathers around
the fire site in a circle and a special guest will light a fire
from far away overhead tree’s branch. Fire will runs down
from a branch to the fire site.
• Olympic 1992: an athlete shoots a fire arrow to
light a fire.
• Lighting by using electricity: using electrical
wires to ignite a fire (Not recommended).
• Lighting by chemical: using a flammable chemical
to light a fire (Not recommended).
4. Campfire ceremony:
• Call for a fire.
• Fire dancing.
• Program introduction: Introduce all the guests
and programs.
• Ending ceremony.
• TÎnh tâm ceremony.
• Evaluation.
5. Tasks and Responsibilities:
a. Fire keeper (Quản Lửa) task:
? Choose a fire site, prepare wood and fuel for
campfire.
? Dry leaves to make a flame.
? Fresh leaves to make smoke.
? Water to control fire.
? Chemicals for colored smoke and colored flame.
? Keep fire burn at all the time.
? Clean up camp fire site.
Fire keeper’s responsibility is not easy.
Besides keep fire burning, he has to know when making fire
flames. He also needs to know the whole
program in order to keep campfire atmosphere as fun as
possible.
b. Game keeper (Quản Tṛ) tasks:
? Master ceremony of the campfire.
? Conducting games and singing during the
campfire.
? After each of the performance, game keeper has
to make a noise for fun.
c. Họa Mi tasks:
? Help Game keeper to make a noise, sing, and play
games.
6. Arts and campfire:
• Campfire is the main subject. Art performance is
the way to promote campfire. In other way, the purpose
of the campfire is described by art performances.
• To make interest and surprise, performance
costumes are usually made at such short notice. The camp
trainee’s spirit of being able to face a difficult is trained by
this occasion.
Campfire performance is not stage performance; therefore,
all the art performances and costumes can not prepare in
advance.
